…that Chopped Challenge!! Phew!!

“Chopped” as we know it is a famous reality show on Food Network. The idea is to make a dish/meal out of given ingredients which conventionally do not go well together. We play this “game” every now and then at home where we pick 5 things we see in the fridge and make a meal out of it. Sometimes it turns out good and sometimes we get “Chopped”.

One of my very close friends posted a fun challenge to make an interesting meal with Kale, Pineapple, White Potato, Cinnamon
and Spring Onion. Interesting right?

Here’s my take on it. I made –

  • Potato and Spring Onion Patties
  • Kale Chips with Cayenne pepper.
  • Spring Onion Pesto
  • Smoked Pineapple Mustard Aioli
  • Caramelized Pineapple Cinnamon Vanilla Mousse

I am not a great fan of Kale. Let’s face it! It’s rough and rubbery. I would rather like smooth spinach. The only thing Kale and me agree on are Kale Chips and there are so many different ways you can make them.

Here’s the Recipe for Kale Chips.

There is no “recipe”.

All you need to do is wash and pat dry the Kale leaves. The stem is pretty hard and stocky. You can’t do much with it than to compost it. Another thing to remember is not to salt the Kale before you bake. Salt or sugar tend to get the moisture out and then the chips will not be crispy.

Preheat the oven for 350F. Arrange the Kale leaves without overlapping each other. Sprinkle some extra virgin olive oil.Bake for 15 min. That’s it! You have crisp Kale Chips ready!

Play around with flavors-

  • Just 2-3 mins before you take the chips out of the oven sprinkle some parmesan cheese. The salty Parmesan and little bitter Kale is a perfect match.
  • Just sprinkle some kosher salt and Enjoy!
  • Sprinkle some Cayenne Pepper and Kosher salt. That’s what I did here. DSCF3385
