Irish Cream Soaked Pound Cake with Nutella and Whipped Cream

As I spent most of the Valentine day concentrating on the fancy main course ,I had no time and patience to come up with very intricate dessert recipe. The Valentine dinner is incomplete without a nice dessert. I wanted to make something that my daughter can enjoy cooking with me. We decided to make pound cake to start with.

Pound cake is the easiest cake one could bake.

1 cup All Purpose Flour

1 cup Sugar

1 stick of Butter at room temperature.

1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

3 eggs.

1/2 teaspoon of Baking Powder

Pinch of Salt.

Mix the above ingredients together and bake in a pan 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

My 5 yrs old girl helped me make this cake. Once the cake cooled completely we used her heart shaped cookie cutters to cut the cake in 2 different heart shapes.  For an adult dessert we soaked the pound cake in Irish Cream (well! Why not!) and for her version of the dessert we soaked her cake in a 1:1 mixture of Condensed milk and Evaporated milk.  We needed about 1/2 cup Cream/Milk mixture of 4 slices of pound cake.

While serving we added a layer of Nutella in between the tiered cakes. Served with fresh whipped cream sprinkled with cocoa powder. Sometimes easy things make your day! It sure made our day.

You can make this dessert in a jiffy if you have pound cake readily available. I make and freeze the pound cake for such last minute dessert fixes. You can even use store bought pound cake for this recipe.
